The 2012 Seattle Turkish Film Festival delighted Seattle moviegoers with five contemporary feature films by some of Turkey’s most respected directors.

 

My Grandfather’s People (2011) by the internationally celebrated director ÇaÄŸan Irmak kicked off the festival with a screening at the opening night gala. The director traveled to Seattle for a Q&A with the audience.

 

The festival also featured Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011) by the two-time Cannes recipient Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Merry-Go-Round (2011) by Ilksen BaÅŸarır, Love Likes Coincidences (2011) by Ömer Faruk Sorak, and last but not least Summer Book (2008) by Seyfi Teoman.

My Grandfather's People describes the spectacular transformation of a family and their country through the eyes of a ten-year old child and his grandfather living in a small town. This story about the people in the crowded and warm Aegean, you will once again experience the population exchange, what it means to be the other, the ability to belong anywhere no matter where you go, insurrections, numerous minorities, and both side.

Year 1977, a September morning in Ankara… Yılmaz tries to rush his pregnant wife Neriman to the hospital and he crushes into Ömer's car. This accident causes Ömer's pregnant wife Ä°nci, who was in the back seat, to have a pre-term labor. The babies are born on the same day. They see each other for the first time.

 

This accident is the threshold of the coincidences that bring Özgür and Deniz together.
